Do you need a permit — and what does it cost in your area?
A roof dormer, a terrace, a tree, an event. Whether you need a permit for it depends on your municipality, and what it costs differs by hundreds of euros per municipality. We work it out per municipality, from its own regulations, and include the source and the date.
A few questions, about a minute. "You need nothing" is a valid outcome for us — and it costs you nothing.
Where people get stuck
"I'm looking for a building permit"
That no longer exists in the Netherlands. Since 2010 it was incorporated into the environmental permit, and since 2024 that has been split again into a technical and a spatial part. One roof dormer can thus require both, one of them, or neither.
How it's called now →"What does it cost in our area?"
Every municipality sets its own fees, every year afresh. The same terrace costs seventy euros in one municipality and five hundred in another. We get it per municipality from its own fee regulation.
Choose your municipality →"Who do I need to contact?"
That depends on the permit. Building work goes through the Environmental Counter, an event through the mayor, and a terrace often through both at the same time. We tell you in each case where it goes — and whether we can submit it for you.

With each amount we state which regulation it comes from and when that was adopted, with a link to the official text. That is not decoration: municipalities set their fees anew every year, and a fee without a date is incorrect within half a year.
The fees come from the open regulations database of the Dutch government, where every municipality publishes its regulations. We read from it what it says — and if we cannot substantiate an amount with a literal source, we do not state it. Better no figure than a figure you cannot verify.
What this is not: a decision. We do not know your plan and your plot and do not assess your situation. The outcome of the check is an indication based on the national rules; what your municipality adds to that is in its environmental plan.
